WTA 1000 Cincinnati: Garcia Eliminated, Gracheva Defeats Kenin
Despite a strong first-round victory against Sonay Kartal, Caroline Garcia was unable to overcome Karolina Muchova in the second round of Cincinnati.
The French player fell in two tie-breaks, with the second lost 7-0. It should be noted that she took a medical timeout for left thigh pain.
She will next be seen at the US Open for her final tournament before retirement.
As for Varvara Gracheva, she faced Sofia Kenin, a former Australian Open champion.
Despite having two set points on the American’s serve, the French player lost the first set in a tie-break.
The second set was more erratic, featuring six breaks. Gracheva claimed it 6-3.
Riding the momentum, she broke Kenin early in the third set and maintained her lead to secure a 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 victory.
In the next round, she will face Muchova.
