WTA 125 Angers: Dodin and Paquet qualify for the second round
After Fiona Ferro's victory and Jessika Ponchet's defeat, three other French players were on the courts in Angers this Tuesday afternoon. First, a 100% French duel between Océane Dodin, who is using her protected ranking, and Alice Rame, world number 201.
Having fallen to 744th place, Dodin, who was still world number 72 last year, wants to regain confidence. In a match she controlled, the 29-year-old player won in two sets (6-3, 6-4) and advances to the round of 16, where she will face the number 1 seed Alycia Parks or Gabriela Knutson.
Great performance from Paquet, who defeated Bronzetti
The last French player of the day in Maine-et-Loire, Chloé Paquet. Invited by the organizers, the world number 251 faced Lucia Bronzetti, ranked 106th in the WTA. The first set was balanced and indecisive, with both players having a break advantage. The Italian first served for the set at 5-3, but saw her opponent come back to level. Finally, it was Bronzetti who took the advantage.
Paquet's reaction, however, was sparkling. In just 22 minutes and without losing a game, she leveled at one set all, and following the momentum of the second set, the French player pulled away in the decisive set. She ultimately wins in 2 hours and 11 minutes (5-7, 6-0, 6-2) and will play in the round of 16 against a young player, who will be Dominika Salkova or Jeline Vandromme.
