WTA 125 Angers: Ferro defeated by Korpatsch in the second round
First Frenchwoman on court this Thursday, Fiona Ferro faced Tamara Korpatsch for a spot in the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 tournament in Angers. The two women had not faced each other since 2016, in a first-round qualifying match at the Gstaad tournament, won by the German in two sets (6-4, 6-4). Nine years later, many things have changed for both players.
Korpatsch needed five match points
After a balanced start to the match, the encounter heated up and many breaks occurred towards the end of the first set. But Korpatsch eventually found the key to her opponent's serve, breaking four times consecutively between the middle of the first set and the beginning of the second.
A step above today, the world number 138 prevailed on her fifth opportunity (6-2, 6-3 in 1h13) and secured her ticket to the quarterfinals. She will face Alycia Parks or Océane Dodin. The latter and Chloé Paquet are the only two Frenchwomen still in contention in Maine-et-Loire.
