WTA 125 Angers: Paquet Overturned by Salkova, No French Players Left in Contention
Chloé Paquet was the last hope for French tennis at the Angers tournament this week. The world No. 251 faced Dominika Salkova in the round of 16.
After defeating Lucia Bronzetti in the first round, the 31-year-old player aimed to confirm her form against the 21-year-old Czech player, now ranked 140th in the world. Despite a very strong start, Paquet could not sustain her performance over time.

After a solid first set wrapped up in 44 minutes, Paquet never really managed to maintain her momentum. Salkova indeed started the second set with full intensity, pulling away to lead 5-0.
Ultimately, the Czech player prevailed (4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in 1 hour and 49 minutes) and joins Antonia Ruzic in the quarterfinals. The other three matches scheduled for this Friday are Sönmez-Friedsam, Parks-Korpatsch, and Barthel-Rakhimova.
