WTA Finals – Swiatek Eliminated, Anisimova Reaches Semifinals After a Tight Battle
Iga Swiatek exits the WTA Finals in the group stage once again. Defeated by Amanda Anisimova after a stunning match, the Polish player sees the American secure her ticket to the final four.
The third duel of the year between Iga Swiatek and Amanda Anisimova lived up to its promise. The two players, both in a position to qualify for the final four of these WTA Finals, delivered a battle lasting over 2 hours and 30 minutes on the court in Riyadh.
It was Anisimova who ultimately triumphed, overcoming the world No. 2 with a score of 6-7, 6-4, 6-2. A courageous victory for the American, who will play her first career semifinal in the tournament on Friday. Swiatek, on the other hand, fails to advance from the group stage for the second consecutive year.
After Serena Williams in 2000 and Sloane Stephens in 2018, Anisimova is the third American player to reach the final four in her first appearance in the tournament.
