Zverev after losing to Fritz: "It's really hard to play against him".
Alexander Zverev ended his 2024 season with a semi-final defeat at the Masters against Taylor Fritz, who has become his bête noire in recent matches.
The two players have played each other five times this year, and it's been since the second half of the season that the American has gained the upper hand in their clashes.
After the round of 16 at Wimbledon, the quarter-final at the US Open and the Laver Cup, Fritz has now beaten Zverev at the Masters.
In a press conference, the world No.2 admitted that he was struggling to cope with the American's game: "I think I was better in the second and third sets, but I wasn't able to convert my opportunities.
I really find it hard to play against him. He's improved his forehand a lot and his style of play doesn't suit me. To be honest, this defeat really hurts. But it's been a great season."
