Zverev miraculously pulls through at Roland-Garros!
Alexander Zverev was extremely scared. Hustled and manhandled by a bluffing Griekspoor, the German came back from nowhere to win the last set in a super tie-break (3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 in 4h16).
Far less effective than in his two previous matches, Zverev came very close to being eliminated prematurely. Far more erratic than usual (41 unforced errors) and playing far too much off his line, he let his Dutch opponent distribute the play a little too long.
Conceding the first and fourth acts, the world No. 4 seemed to lose his footing. Down two breaks in the fifth set, he pulled off an unexpected comeback. He rediscovered his best tennis and took advantage of Griekspoor's restlessness at the end of the match to reach the last 16. After a crazy super tie-break, he will face the winner of the duel between Rune and Kovalik for a place in the quarter-finals.
