Zverev on alternating current joins Ruud in the French Open semi-finals!
Alexander Zverev didn't play his best tennis, but he did secure the essential: a three-set victory and a place in the last four in Paris (6-4, 7-6, 6-3 in 2 hours).
Up against an extremely combative Alex De Minaur, the German kept his nerve right to the end. Although dominant, he was unusually inaccurate (48 unforced errors, 20 winners). If he was very nervous, this was also due to the level of play offered by De Minaur, who once again covered his court like a madman.
Remaining solid right to the end, the world number 4 generally managed the important points very well, particularly in the second set when he saved a set-all. On the whole, yes, because Zverev weakened slightly at the moment of conclusion. Serving for the match at 5-3, he gave up his serve at the worst possible moment, leaving the world number 11 to hope once again. Fortunately for him, he recovered straight away to win a final break point.
He needed just one match point to conclude this bitter battle (2h59 of play) and join Ruud in the semi-finals. This duel may be a little less exciting than the Sinner-Alcaraz, but it promises to be almost as exciting!
