Zverev on Sinner: "He has a well-established game plan that he implements even more in crucial moments"
Alexander Zverev came very close to winning a Grand Slam once again. At the start of the season, during the Australian Open, the world number 2 reached his third Major final but once again failed to add his name to the list of winners in the most prestigious category of professional tennis tournaments.
The German fell short in his final against Jannik Sinner, who secured his second consecutive title in Melbourne. Defeated early at the Indian Wells Masters 1000, Zverev, struggling since his loss in Australia, hopes to regain confidence in Miami.
Meanwhile, he was asked about Sinner, the world number 1 who is currently absent from the tour due to a three-month suspension in recent hours.
"There's one aspect in which Jannik has really improved over the past few years. He has a game plan every time he steps onto the court, and I think he prefers to lose with a fixed game plan rather than deviate from his roadmap and try to be more creative or something like that.
I think Darren Cahill (Sinner's coach) should be credited for that. Jannik has always had the weapons. He's always had the forehand. He's always had the backhand. He has greatly improved his serve. We don't need to talk about those aspects.
But Darren has told him the right things: against this opponent, you do this and that, and you'll win 80% of the time. Against that one, you do this and that. He has a well-established game plan that he implements even more in crucial moments, like at 5-all in a set or in a tie-break.
He sticks to that game plan and trusts his coach. And I think that's where he has really improved and progressed more than anyone else. It's truly incredible," praised Zverev.
