People here need to understand that rules are different for throwing a ball and hitting someone OUTSIDE of the court (like de roger example someone made and Bedene in cincy this year). Another thing entirely is trowing a ball and hitting a person INSIDE of the court, the the unpire or the lineswoman/judge.
If you hit someone outside of the court its not a defualt, if it is inside you are defaulted.
Thats the rules, correct or not they apply to all by equal.

By the way, this was a really though decision for the umpire. We can all agree that rules are made to be respected, and in this case djocovic was clearly wrong.

However, what novak did yesterday was different from what shapovalov did in davis cup. Indeed shapovalov had the intention to trow randomly the ball, while djokovic trowed the ball whit frustration but behind him, a gesture that is often made after a game.

On the other hand, if they had not disqualified Djokovic, there would have probably been protests for favoritism.

In the end, in my opinion the default was right, but i can see why some people think it was exaggerated.

He got a code voilation for that and that is what rule book says. Did it hit some one or if anyone got hurt,nope. Hitting umpire and throwing ball at the crowd are different things and have different punishment. Now dont drag and vilify someone

So the rules say if someone hits the ball intentionally and it doesn't harm anyone then it's okay and if someone hits the ball unintentionally and it harms anyone then you will be disqualified. Wow ???

Rules are same for everyone. If Fedal would have done the same mistake they too could have been disqualified. Rules apply ir-respective of nature and rank of the player.
