Rune lost to Novak fair and square, then he basically got WO, and now facing Sinner, who already qualified for semifinal. Should Sinner decide to tank tonight's match, it will be really ugly to see Rune qualifying in that manner. I hope Sinner plays for real and let better player win... otherwise, karma will catch up with Sinner or wrath of Novak when he meets him next time. :-)

I think surely if djoko qualifies, then he deserves it. If he doesn't qualify, he doesn't deserve it. Fairly straightforward. Whoever out of Sinner, Rune and Djoko in this group who did not make semi was always going to be a tough pill for them to swallow. The surface has been a real equaliser too. Really good balance between speed and bounces - gives a fair chance to many playing styles. Tennis as a sport is shining bright this week.

Has to be said that perhaps Sinner is just feeling so confident he doesn't care who else goes through. No guarantee Djoko will beat Zev, Med or Alc in the SF anyway.. Sinner had not beaten Rune and so doing so is another confidence boost. I do admit after set 2 and seeing his back stiffen I do think he was a bit mad pushing in the 3rd, but home crowd and all that. Question now is how well Sinner recovers for the SF. Really interested in the other group. Med is a big danger in this tournament.

Interesting that if djokovic does take 3 sets that sinner could take his foot off the pedal vs rune. Probably send Rune through. Seems likely Sinner would not try super hard to beat Rune if he knows he is already through. Djokovic will be desperate to beat Hurk in 2 today.

It will be interesting to see Sinner's approach tonight. We'll learn a lot about his character and personality tonight! Will he give his best effort to win or not? Even if he gives his best effort, it doesn't mean he'll win. He had never defeated Rune before. He is playing for $ 400k and keeping alive $ 1M bonus chance in the end. On the other hand, he could choose to tank it and preserve energy, plus knock Novak out. To win a tournament, you definitely don't want to lose momentum...

I don't think it will be ugly at all for Rune to qualify. It would have been a massive disadvantage to Rune for him to get anything other than a 2 set WO vs tipsy. You cannot have a situation where a player retiring disadvantages an opponent. For me the ugly thing was tipsy taking to court at all that day, he should have pulled out before and let HH play. Yet tipsy got and extra 80k for those 3 games. That's ugly.

The group was in Djokovic's hands today. This was one of the toughest groups for years to qualify from and djoko yet still may.

My guess is Sinner will give the first set full attention, but if he loses it I doubt he will want to push for 3 sets.
