Use of Anonymous Sources
Last updated: 15/04/2026
TennisTemple prioritizes
identifiable and publicly cited sources. The use of anonymous (unnamed) sources remains exceptional and is governed by the rules described on this page.
General Principle: Named Sources
Our articles rely by default on
named sources: public statements by players, official press releases, press conference statements, agency dispatches (AFP in particular) and traceable publications. This applies to the
vast majority of our content.
When We Use an Anonymous Source
A source may be kept anonymous only when:
- The information is of genuine public interest to the tennis community
- No other avenue (public, official or named source) is available
- The source faces a personal, professional or contractual risk by speaking (a player's entourage, a staff member, an employee of a governing body, etc.)
- The editor-in-chief has approved the use of anonymity
Safeguards We Provide
When we use an anonymous source:
- The source's identity is known to the editorial team (the reporter and the editor-in-chief)
- We describe to the reader the nature of the connection between the source and the subject ("a person close to the coaching staff," "a member of the player council," etc.)
- The reported information is cross-checked with at least one additional source whenever materially possible
- We use conditional language and explicitly state that the information has not been officially confirmed
What We Do Not Do
TennisTemple
never publishes:
- Unverifiable rumors from a single source with no track record of reliability
- Serious accusations against a named individual based solely on an anonymous source
- Defamatory content, content that violates privacy or the presumption of innocence
Protection of Our Sources
In accordance with French law and journalistic ethics, we
protect the identity of our anonymous sources and do not disclose it under any pressure, including judicial, within the limits permitted by law.
