A very eventful week at the Madrid Challenger due to the presence of bettors
This week, the Madrid Challenger took place. The tournament was heavily disrupted by the presence of bettors in the stands, who did not hesitate to loudly cheer for the players they had bet on and distract their opponents.
This had a major impact on the semifinal between Norbert Gombos and Kamil Majchrzak. The Slovak player was unsettled throughout the match, particularly by whistling during his serves.
After a double fault by Gombos, his coach turned to the chair umpire and said, "You have to say something. Did you hear that before the serve?"
Gombos ultimately lost in the third-set tiebreak against Majchrzak. After the match, he approached the spectators and told them, "Are you happy? You ruined the match.
I don’t care about your bets."
