Alcaraz reassures himself by beating Rublev at the Masters!
Beaten by Carlos Alcaraz on Wednesday, Andrey Rublev is having a tough time of it at the Masters. In his last six matches played at the event, the Russian hasn't won a single match. Worse still, he hasn't won a single set since beating Tsitsipas at the 2022 Masters (losing 12 sets in a row).
Faced with a Carlos Alcaraz who was still a little ill, but who was gradually finding his game, the world number 8 was initially dominated before the duel evened out towards the end of the match.
Even missing two set points in the tie-break of the second set, Rublev finally cracked, losing without winning a set (6-3, 7-6).
Disappointingly, he is now on the verge of elimination.
For his part, Alcaraz was clearly reassured. Looking much better than he did two days ago, the 21-year-old prodigy rediscovered his power and aggression in the exchange (33 winners, 26 unforced errors) and on serve (10 aces, 0 break points conceded).
In all seriousness, he will be playing for qualification on Thursday in his final group match, against a certain Alexander Zverev.
