Atmane Wins His Second Challenger of the Season in Guangzhou
Terence Atmane continues his Asian tour on the Challenger circuit. After competing in several tournaments and winning the event held in Busan, South Korea, last month, the 23-year-old French player was in Guangzhou this week.
Having maintained a flawless run so far, he played the final this Sunday. Following his four consecutive victories in recent days, the world No. 136 faced Tristan Schoolkate for the title.
Last year, the Australian had defeated the Frenchman in the first round of qualifying at the 's-Hertogenbosch tournament, and Atmane was eager for revenge. In a match he controlled, the left-hander took the lead, winning a set and a break before Schoolkate—who had taken a set off Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open—leveled the score.
However, in the end, Atmane held his nerve well enough to withstand his opponent’s comeback. In the tie-break, the Frenchman sealed the match on his first championship point (6-3, 7-6). With this second Challenger title in 2025, he will climb 17 spots to reach No. 119 in the ATP rankings, just shy of his career-high (No. 118).
