Back on the court, Cornet reveals her comeback schedule on the WTA tour
Surprise, surprise! After ending her career last year following the Roland-Garros tournament, where she lost in the first round to Zheng Qinwen, Alizé Cornet (35 years old) recently announced that she will be making her return to the tour.
Having chosen to retain her WTA ranking points, the Nice native will activate her protected ranking and will compete at the WTA 250 tournament in Rouen next April. But Cornet has broken her silence and revealed her comeback schedule on Instagram, which includes her participation in the Norman event.
*"After 8 weeks of intensive training (and 10 months of retirement), I’ll soon be back on the court! Even if it’s just for a few tournaments, the desire to play and the excitement of competition are definitely there.*
*I’ve worked very hard to give myself the best chance, but above all, I’ve had immense joy in doing so. Out of love for tennis, and for the thrill of competition—which I hope to share with you all,"* Cornet first shared on social media.
Following this, Cornet announced that she will compete in several tournaments: La Bisbal d’Empordà (WTA 125), starting on March 31, before heading to Rouen (WTA 250) from April 12 to 20.
Next, the Frenchwoman, a former world No. 11, will play in the qualifying rounds of the WTA 1000 events in Madrid and Rome. She concluded her message by stating, *"For what comes after, I’ll keep you posted,"* which could potentially lead her to Roland-Garros—where she would make her return to the Parisian clay one year after her farewell on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
