Badosa Absent from Spain’s Team for BJK Cup Matches in April

From April 10 to 12, the Billie Jean King Cup will make its return. Spain, with its new captain being none other than former professional player Carla Suarez Navarro, will take to the courts and face Brazil and the Czech Republic.

On this occasion, the former world No. 6 unveiled her first roster for the 2025 edition during a press conference. Spain’s top-ranked WTA player, Paula Badosa (currently world No. 10), is notably absent from the list.

Having suffered a back injury in Mérida in recent weeks, the Australian Open semifinalist from earlier this year had to withdraw from the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells due to the back issue.

As a result, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, Sara Sorribes Tormo, Cristina Bucsa, Nuria Parrizas Diaz, and Yvonne Cavallé-Reimers have been selected.

“I want coming here to be a privilege. We have a very tough first round, but that’s sports. I think we have a lot of potential, and many girls can express themselves to the best of their ability during these matches. I will try to help them as much as I can to make that happen,” Suarez Navarro stated, as reported by Relevo.

Among the teams Spain will face in the coming weeks, the Czech Republic will be without Karolina Muchova but will rely on Linda Noskova and Marie Bouzkova, while Brazil has selected Beatriz Haddad Maia.
