Berrettini Opens Up: "In 2023, After My Ankle Fracture, I No Longer Had the Energy to Come Back"
Matteo Berrettini gave an interview to *Australian Tennis Magazine* in which he discussed the challenges he faced in 2023, a year marked by injuries and which ended for him after the US Open.
He said: "2023 was really tough, one of the worst years of my career and my life. When you can't do your job and what you love, it’s always difficult.
Unfortunately, since I was young, I’ve often gotten injured. But when I was younger, I had this energy that told me I would do everything to come back, feel stronger, and be better.
Then, for the first time in 2023, after my ankle fracture, I felt like I no longer had the energy to return. So, I wondered if I would make it.
I was very lucky because the people around me never doubted me. They always told me I could do it, that I just needed to find the energy within myself.
So I trusted them, I persevered, and that’s what I proved to myself. I think once again, I proved to myself that I could come back."
