Bitter semifinal for Jacquemot, who falls to Arango in Guadalajara

Elsa Jacquemot, the 22-year-old French player, saw her dream of reaching the final vanish in the semifinals of the WTA 500 in Guadalajara. Despite a strong start and a 4-2 lead in the first set, she couldn't maintain her momentum against Emiliana Arango.
Jacquemot will not play in the final of the WTA 500 in Guadalajara. After her victories against Sakkari, Mertens, and Maria, the French player fell in the semifinals to Emiliana Arango.
Although she got off to a very good start, leading 4-2 in the first set, the Lyon native then lost six consecutive games, finding herself trailing 6-4, 2-0. Not helped by her serve (10 double faults), Jacquemot ultimately conceded defeat (6-4, 7-5 in 1 hour and 55 minutes of play).
Ranked 86th before the tournament, Arango is guaranteed to be at least 51st in the world this Monday and will achieve her career-best ranking regardless. The 24-year-old Colombian will play her second final on the main tour and her second in a WTA 500 event, after the one against Emma Navarro in Mérida earlier this season. To try and win her first title, she will have to overcome Iva Jovic.
The 17-year-old American player, ranked 73rd in the world and provisionally 48th in the WTA thanks to her run in Mexico, eliminated Nikola Bartunkova (6-3, 6-7, 6-3). Jacquemot, for her part, will climb about twenty places in the rankings, moving from 83rd to 62nd in the WTA. However, she will have to wait before playing her first final on the main tour.
