Boisson Knocked Out in Round of 16 at WTA 125 Bastad Tournament

Loïs Boisson returned to clay this week. After her first-round loss in the Wimbledon qualifiers against Carson Branstine, the 22-year-old French player was back on her favorite surface.
In Sweden, the world No. 66 faced Darja Semenistaja, ranked 128th in the WTA. After her victory against Chloé Paquet in the first round (6-3, 6-4), the Dijon native aimed to confirm her form against the Latvian player.
Unfortunately, Boisson faltered at the end of the first set. Leading 3-2, the Roland-Garros semifinalist then lost four consecutive games, allowing Semenistaja to take control.
The French player struggled to break her opponent’s serve and lost her own serve at the worst possible moment, giving the Latvian the chance to serve for the match at 6-3, 5-3. Boisson briefly revived her hopes by securing her first break of the match.
However, the toughest challenge remained—holding serve to level at 5-5. Unable to find enough consistency on her service games, she ultimately fell 6-3, 6-4 in 1 hour and 24 minutes. Semenistaja, who sealed the win on her first match point, advances to the quarterfinals, where she will face Mayar Sherif, who defeated Varvara Lepchenko (6-1, 6-4).
