Boisson Wins All-French Clash Against Paquet in Bastad for Her Return to Clay

Loïs Boisson didn't stay away from clay for very long. Just weeks after her exceptional run at Roland-Garros, where she reached the semifinals in her very first Grand Slam appearance, the new French No. 1 competed in the Wimbledon qualifiers but fell in the first round to Carson Branstine.
Before preparing for the North American hard-court tour, the 22-year-old player, now ranked 66th in the world, decided to regain her rhythm on clay. After her victories against two top-10 players, Pegula and Andreeva, in Paris, the Dijon native returned to competition this Tuesday at the WTA 125 tournament in Bastad.
The draw had set up an all-French matchup against Chloé Paquet. The only two French players in the Swedish tournament battled for a spot in the round of 16.
One thing is certain: Boisson hasn’t lost her touch on clay. Against Paquet, whom Boisson had defeated in their two previous meetings, the player who was ranked outside the top 350 before Roland-Garros triumphed in straight sets (6-3, 6-4 in 1h14). Boisson will next face Darja Semenistaja, who defeated Maria Carle (6-2, 6-2) in her opening match.
