Djokovic explains the video of him limping at Doha airport: "Actually, I had bumped myself"
Novak Djokovic had been eliminated in the first round of the ATP 500 in Doha. Despite this elimination, the Serb had assured that he was playing without pain.
However, he had been spotted at Doha airport limping, and the video of him showing this had called into question the Serb's statements.
Present in Indian Wells, he explained the reasons for all this: "I saw the video. No, it was actually something different. It wasn't an injury.
The injury is behind me, hopefully. I didn't feel any problems before Doha, at the end of the Doha tournament I felt completely fine, as I had felt before Indian Wells, my training weeks.
It was really uncomfortable to watch that video, because I arrived at the airport and I bumped myself very hard while leaving, because it was very early, I think 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning.
I was limping because I had bumped my ankle hard. That was all. It was just a hit. It was nothing more.
But then people made the connection with the injury and thought it was something that was getting worse and coming back."
Djokovic will face Botic van de Zandschulp, who defeated Nick Kyrgios by retirement, in his opening match at Indian Wells.
