Djokovic Trained with Gomez, Player Who Recently Revealed Mental Health Struggles: "I Told Him I'm Here to Help"
Novak Djokovic advanced yesterday to the Round of 16 in Miami, where he will face Lorenzo Musetti for the ninth time in his career.
During the press conference, the Serbian was asked about his training session with Federico Gomez, ranked 138th in the world, who had opened up a few weeks ago about his long battle with depression and suicidal thoughts:
"We trained together today—he helped me warm up before the match. But we didn’t really have time to talk.
I believe we’re training again tomorrow, so I hope we’ll have a bit more time to reflect on it. Honestly, I can relate to a lot of what he wrote.
We all have dark moments. Psychologically and emotionally, we go through a lot.
I have a lot of empathy for him. I told him I’m here to help if he wants to share anything with me."
