Fonseca gets the better of Mensik

Joao Fonseca is definitely in a hurry. At 18 years of age, the gifted Brazilian is putting everyone in agreement in his first appearance at the Next Gen Masters.

Having qualified for the semi-finals and guaranteed top spot in his group, Fonseca didn't take his final group match lightly. Faced with Jakub Mensik, who was at last regaining some of his tennis form, the right-hander showed remarkable resilience to come out on top after 5 extremely hard-fought sets (3-4, 4-3, 4-3, 3-4, 4-3 in 2h16).

Finishing the group phase unbeaten, the Brazilian will meet Luca Van Assche in the semi-finals, with a chance of reaching the Next Gen Masters final on his first attempt.
