Grand Slam: Decline in French Presence in Round of 16 Since 2021
After yesterday's eliminations of Parry, Mannarino, Rinderknech, and Monfils, no French players remain at Wimbledon. While Fils, Humbert, and Mpetshi Perricard had reached the round of 16 in London last year, this 2025 edition has been disappointing despite the surprising results in the early rounds.
According to *Jeu, Set et Maths*, the number of French players advancing to the second week of Grand Slam tournaments has declined since the 2020s.
Indeed, between 1990 and 2020, out of 123 Grand Slam tournaments played, only 7 tournaments took place without any French players in the round of 16. However, starting in 2021, out of 19 Majors, 10 have occurred without a French player reaching the round of 16.
For context, French No. 1 Arthur Fils was injured and had to withdraw from the London fortnight.
