Halep called in as backup at World Tennis League exhibition
The World Tennis League, a mixed exhibition held in Abu Dhabi, announced a flurry of withdrawals on Saturday, just a few days before the event (December 19-22).
On the men's side, Daniil Medvedev, Hubert Hurkacz and Taylor Fritz, initially announced by the organizers, have decided to withdraw from the event.
They will be replaced by Denis Shapovalov, Jordan Thompson and Alexander Shevchenko.
For the women, Simona Halep, who has been very vocal about the doping cases of Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek in recent weeks, will replace Barbora Krejcikova.
As a reminder, the World Tennis League comprises four teams (Eagles, Falcons, Hawks and Kites) featuring a number of ATP and WTA stars such as Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Nick Kyrgios and Caroline Garcia.
