Halep, Former Tournament Winner, Invited by Wimbledon to Attend Ladies' Final

At 33, Simona Halep did not have the career ending she had hoped for. The Romanian, a former world No. 1, retired last February after competing in the WTA 250 tournament in Cluj-Napoca.
Defeated in straight sets in the first round by Lucia Bronzetti (6-1, 6-1), Halep—plagued by recurring knee and shoulder injuries in the final months of her career and lacking rhythm after an 18-month doping suspension—chose to call it quits.
After winning 24 WTA titles, including two Grand Slams (Roland-Garros 2018 and Wimbledon 2019), Simona Halep is now enjoying her retirement. That hasn’t stopped tournaments where she shone from honoring her.
Six years ago, she delivered an exceptional final against Serena Williams, committing just three unforced errors, and went on to claim the London Major. Now, she will return to Wimbledon for the first time since her last appearance as a player in 2022, when she reached the semifinals.
According to reports from Digi Sport, Simona Halep has been invited by Wimbledon organizers and will attend the ladies' final this Saturday, July 12, in the prestigious Royal Box.
A major privilege for the Constanţa native, who shared her excitement with the local media: "A few days ago, I said the only tournament I missed was Wimbledon!
"I’m going this weekend and can’t wait to relive some beautiful moments there. I’ve been invited to the Royal Box to watch the ladies' final, and I’m really looking forward to it," Halep concluded.
