Hurkacz still wants more: "There are still 6 places to climb to become number 1".

Hurkacz still wants more: There are still 6 places to climb to become number 1.

Hubert Hurkacz isn't the most talked-about player in the world's Top 10. Yet, at 27, he's about to reach his career-high ranking of 7th on Monday. A fitting reward for a player of unrivalled consistency at the highest level.

Considered by many to be the world's best server at the moment, the Pole doesn't seem to be getting any firmer. Having qualified for the semi-finals of the Halle tournament, where he will face Alexander Zverev, Hurkacz was satisfied but above all extremely ambitious: "I didn't know it was official. It's great (to reach his career-best ranking). But, of course, there are still six places to climb to become number 1. To be where Jannik Sinner is at the moment.

The ranking shows the results achieved over the last 12 months. If you can improve it little by little, that's a good thing. I want to continue on this path."
