"I am always impressed by Novak," Medvedev praises Djokovic
Novak Djokovic always has big goals. The Serbian, who will celebrate his 38th birthday this Thursday, May 22, is just one trophy away from his 100th title on the ATP circuit and still hopes to win a Grand Slam.
A semifinalist at the Australian Open this year, he also reached the final of the Miami Masters 1000, but that famous 100th trophy still eludes him. In recent days, Djokovic, who decided to skip the Rome Masters 1000 to participate in the Geneva tournament, announced the end of his collaboration with Andy Murray, who had become his coach at the end of last season.
Awaiting Roland-Garros, the former world number 1 will face Marton Fucsovics for his entry into the competition in the Swiss city. World number 11, Daniil Medvedev, spoke highly of the Serbian champion.
"I am always very impressed by Novak. In terms of play, he can do everything on a court: forehand, backhand, serve... What always amazes me is that he has been able to win all the titles he has.
It's probably thanks to his mindset. Since he was a child, he says he wants to be the world number one. It really fascinates me because I still think about how I played in Juniors.
My evolution has been incredible; I became the best of my generation, or almost, but I never thought I would achieve it. When I look at young players today, some of them, like Alcaraz or Sinner, have already won Grand Slam tournaments.
Others think they will reach the top 10, and that will be it. I have done much more. And then there's Novak, and you say to yourself, 'I can serve, play backhands and forehands too. I could have maybe won 10 Grand Slam tournaments.' I have achieved many things thanks to my way of being," the Russian assured Punto De Break.
