I completely missed the mark," Mpetshi Perricard disheartened after early exit in Cincinnati

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard was knocked out in the first round of Cincinnati by Coleman Wong (6-3, 6-2), the world No. 168.
This marks his sixth loss in his last seven matches, highlighting the struggles the Frenchman has faced this year. Interviewed by *L’Équipe* after his early exit, Mpetshi Perricard admitted he was surprised by the result and his performance:
"This loss hurts. I completely missed the mark. There were a few positive moments, but far too few over the course of the match. I don’t have an explanation. I try to prepare as well as possible before every match, but yes… it stings. […]
It hurts because I thought I was ready. We focused on a lot of things in training, I’ve played a lot these past few days, and I saw improvements. Over the last few weeks, despite losses where I was close, to fall back like this so brutally—it’s painful.
It’s clear that the 2025 season, for now, has been quite tough. I’m not winning many matches, fewer than last year, at least. At the start of the year, I was playing at a very high level, but then I started having lapses. Now, we’re getting to the heart of the issue. There aren’t many tournaments left, and the season is nearing its end. I’ll have to bounce back as best as I can.
