"I enjoyed every moment of this experience," says Swiatek despite the mixed doubles final loss with Ruud at the US Open

Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud were very close to stealing the spotlight from Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori in the final of the new mixed doubles format at the US Open. While the match went to a super tie-break in the third set, the Pole and the Norwegian put up a great fight but ultimately fell short (6-3, 5-7, 10-6).
After already securing a dramatic qualification in the semifinals against Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper (they were trailing 4-8 in the super tie-break before winning), the current world No. 2 in singles on the WTA tour reflected on this tournament and this entirely new experience for her.
"Sara (Errani) and Andrea (Vavassori) took the lead and did a very good job. The match was lively and competitive, I hope the spectators enjoyed it—this tournament exists for them too.
I enjoyed every moment of this experience. It's the only way for players to be able to compete without it affecting the singles tournament, which we obviously want to avoid.
The Cincinnati final (against Jasmine Paolini) might have been able to take place earlier, if possible, because that was the most difficult aspect for me to manage. The format of playing only four matches is good.
It's obviously short, but I think it still allows you to see who is the best. The final being played to six games is also logical, as it gives us more chances to come back," Swiatek told Punto de Break.
