The Pair Errani/Vavassori Wins the New Format of US Open Mixed Doubles

Unbeatable, the pair Sara Errani/Andrea Vavassori went all the way in this new format of the US Open mixed doubles. After qualifying for the semifinals, the two Italians had confirmed in a press conference: they were on a mission and represented the discipline's usual duos who were unable to participate.
Defending champions after having triumphed last year, Errani and Vavassori thus retained their title. After their victories against Rybakina/Fritz, Muchova/Rublev, and Collins/Harrison (4-2, 4-2) in the semifinals, the doubles tournament specialists won their third Grand Slam together (and the second this year after Roland Garros).
In the final, they triumphed over the pair Iga Swiatek/Casper Ruud in a suspenseful match (6-3, 5-7, 10-6). At the same time, they also won the one-million-dollar check promised to the winning pair. On their side, Swiatek and Ruud had eliminated the number 1 seed, the pair Pegula/Draper, after a rollercoaster semifinal match.
Trailing 8-4 in the super tie-break, they then strung together six consecutive points to win (3-5, 5-3, 10-8). But, in the end, it was the Italians who were the best in New York and managed to achieve the double in the United States after a perfect run during which they lost only a single set.
