"Jannik suffered from a virus," Cahill speaks on his protégé's withdrawal in the Cincinnati final
Jannik Sinner was forced to withdraw for the sixth time in his career on Monday during the final of the Cincinnati Masters 1000.
Having fallen ill the day before, the world No. 1 was not in a condition to defend his title against Carlos Alcaraz. Speaking to ESPN, Darren Cahill, Sinner's coach, commented on this unfortunate withdrawal:
"Jannik suffered from a virus that forced him to withdraw. He's feeling a bit better now, he'll rest and should be back on the court Thursday to hit a few balls. We are confident he will recover."
The defending champion in New York, the Italian will learn his draw on Thursday during the tournament's draw ceremony.
