"I know my slices bother the girls," says Parry after her win against Shnaider at Wimbledon
Diane Parry brilliantly advanced to the third round of Wimbledon. The Frenchwoman, ranked 118th in the world and coming through qualifying, eliminated Diana Shnaider, the world No. 15, in straight sets (6-4, 6-1). Trailing 4-2 in the first set, the Nice native then took control, losing only one of the last eleven games.
Back in the spotlight after several physical setbacks in recent months, the 22-year-old player managed to overpower the Russian, who was quickly overwhelmed. Parry savored her victory after the match, as she prepares to face Sonay Kartal for a spot in the round of 16.
"Diana (Shnaider) isn't just any player, I know she's a good player and that I had to play a very serious and solid match, so I'm happy I managed to do that.
It was a bit strange—I felt like she wasn't fully into it, so it wasn't easy to find rhythm at first. But I tried to tighten my game as much as possible and not give her too many opportunities.
This is the surface for slices, so I take advantage! I know it bothers the girls, so I try to use them as much as possible. And wisely, so I can then dictate play with my forehand.
But at the start, I lacked rhythm—I could feel there weren't many rallies. What gave me confidence was seeing that she wasn't doing much either, that her serve wasn't going to trouble me either.
I'm feeling good—it gave me time to recover for three days after qualifying. The match against Martic was quite physical, plus with the heat, it did take a bit out of me.
But I had time to recover, and I felt pretty good for this second round, which didn't last too long. So I think it's good for the rest of the tournament," she told *L'Équipe*.
