I would love to play in the evening, it would be amazing," Djokovic's confessions before his clash with Fritz
In the quarterfinals of the US Open, Djokovic will face world number 4 Taylor Fritz for the 11th time. Questioned by the press before this showdown, the Serbian legend expressed his desire to play in the night session, where the atmosphere is often the most electric:
"Taylor and I played here a few years ago, and it was tough. Back then, it was a day match, but this time it will be a night match, with completely different conditions—or at least that’s what I’ve heard. Though maybe the schedule will change (smile).
In any case, for my part, I would love to play in the evening, it would be amazing. I’ve played at night in the later rounds. One way or another, I know what I need to do and how to execute my game plan, even though many factors can affect the match."
Undefeated against Fritz, Djokovic is nonetheless aware of the American’s progress and highlights some qualities that are often overlooked:
"His serve and forehand are his two main weapons. His mobility has improved a lot over the years, his backhand is also more solid and very flat. For a tall guy, he moves well. I think that’s quite underrated.
