Top 4 Oldest Players to Have Featured in the Top 50, Gaël Monfils Celebrates His 39th Birthday
On the tour since 2004, Gael Monfils has spanned generations with a consistency in the rankings that commands respect. A Grand Slam semifinalist, Masters 1000 finalist, and world No. 6 at his peak, the Frenchman has also won three ATP 500 tournaments.
But that’s not all—at just 39 years old, the flamboyant showman is one of the four oldest players to have featured in the ATP Top 50, alongside Ken Rosewall, Jimmy Connors, and Roger Federer.
Although he has faced some challenging performances recently, he still managed to win the Auckland tournament earlier this year, followed by a Round of 16 appearance at the Australian Open.
When asked about his future after his first-round loss at Flushing Meadows against Safiullin (6-4, 2-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4), "La Monf" stated that his goal remains to play until he is 40.
