"It's time to step back," Jabeur's shocking announcement about her career
After months marked by injuries and underperformance, Ons Jabeur announced she intends to take a break from her career. A professional since 2010, the Tunisian shared the following message on her social media:
"Over the past two years, I’ve pushed myself hard, battled injuries, and faced many other challenges. But deep down, it’s been a long time since I’ve felt truly happy on the court. Tennis is such a beautiful sport. But today, I think it’s time to step back and finally prioritize myself: to breathe, heal, and rediscover the simple joy of living.
Thank you to all my fans for your understanding. Your support and love mean so much to me. I carry it with me always. Even when I’m away from the court, I’ll continue to stay close and connected in different ways, sharing this journey with all of you."
Once ranked world No. 2 at her peak, Jabeur has since dropped to 71st in the world. Eliminated in the first round of Eastbourne this year, she later withdrew from her opening match at Wimbledon.
