"It's tough to face him on grass," Sinner names Alcaraz as the favorite for the Wimbledon final
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will face each other for the second consecutive time in a Grand Slam final. A month after their legendary final at Roland-Garros, won by the Spaniard, the top two ATP-ranked players have lived up to their status throughout this Wimbledon tournament.
This Friday, after Alcaraz secured his spot by defeating Taylor Fritz in four sets, the Italian dominated Novak Djokovic (6-3, 6-3, 6-4) and reached his first final in London.
He will attempt to dethrone the two-time defending champion, who is on a 24-match winning streak on the main tour. Moreover, during the press conference, Sinner admitted that the Spaniard enters this new showdown as the favorite.
"We’re evolving as players and as competitors. You always have to do something different against Carlos (Alcaraz) because you don’t want to feel predictable on the court. I’ll do everything to prepare as best as I can.
When the match pace is this high, you have to play by instinct. But compared to Roland-Garros, the surface is different. Carlos is the favorite—he’s already won here twice.
We’ll face each other again in the final. It’s tough to play against him on grass, but I love these kinds of challenges. As for my elbow, there’s no concern for Sunday. Like I said after the match against Ben (Shelton), it’s not an excuse.
We’re managing this minor issue as best we can, but I was more worried before the quarterfinal match. Physically, I felt good today (Friday). This morning’s warm-up was positive—my elbow responded well. I wasn’t worried," Sinner told Punto De Break.
