Jacquemot Advances to Second Round of Qualifiers in Cleveland, Mpetshi Perricard Eliminated
In Ohio, the spotlight is on the WTA 250 tournament in Cleveland. For now, only one French player is guaranteed a spot in the main draw: Loïs Boisson. Returning to the court for the first time since her title win in Hamburg, the Roland-Garros semifinalist could be joined by a compatriot, Elsa Jacquemot.
Seeded No. 1 in the qualifiers, the world No. 96 dominated Zheng Saisi (6-1, 6-2) this Saturday. To secure a place in the main draw, Jacquemot will have to defeat Jessica Failla, who upset Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the previous round (6-4, 2-6, 6-1).
On the other hand, Daphnée Mpetshi Perricard was eliminated in her first match. Facing Rebeka Masarova, the No. 2 seed in the qualifiers, the 16-year-old French player had no answer against the Swiss, ranked 105th in the WTA (6-3, 6-1). Masarova will now take on Sorana Cirstea for a spot in the main draw.
