Khachanov Dominates Ruud to Reach Toronto Quarterfinals

Without a single win against a top-20 player this season, Karen Khachanov finally broke his streak at the Toronto Masters 1000.

The Russian, in a rematch of the 2022 US Open semifinal, faced Casper Ruud for a spot in the tournament’s quarterfinals. Khachanov was relentless (29 winners, 7 aces, and 97% of points won behind his first serve) to secure a 6-4, 7-5 victory in 1 hour and 40 minutes.

For his tenth Masters 1000 quarterfinal, the world No. 16 will be the favorite against Alex Michelsen. The Canadian Open has been a successful tournament for him, having reached the semifinals in both 2018 and 2019.
