Krejcikova, the defending champion at Wimbledon, eliminated by Navarro in the third round

Barbora Krejcikova entered Wimbledon 2025 without any guarantees in her game, following her return to competition in May.
Injured in the back since the end of last season, the Czech knew she was taking a big risk during this tournament with 2,000 points to defend after winning the title last year. Although she got past the first two rounds against Eala and Dolehide, the level was set to rise this Saturday against Emma Navarro, ranked 10th in the world.
The match started ideally for Krejcikova, winning the first set 6-2. But things got complicated for her afterward, with a total of 53 unforced errors in the match and only 5 break points converted out of 18.
Navarro, taking full advantage of her break opportunities (6/6) and playing much more precisely than her opponent (13 winners to 11 unforced errors), turned the situation around to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in 2 hours and 24 minutes.
Having already reached the quarter-finals on the London grass last year, the American will be looking to match her best result by challenging Mirra Andreeva. For Krejcikova, the drop in the rankings is going to be steep, as she is set to fall out of the top 50, virtually ranking 77th in the world.
