Kyrgios and Monfils Set to Play Doubles Together at Washington Tournament
After several months away from the circuit, Nick Kyrgios is preparing to make his competitive return. Absent since his loss to Karen Khachanov in the second round of the Miami Masters 1000, the Australian will be in the United States to compete in the ATP 500 tournament in Washington.
This tournament has been quite successful for the former world No. 13 in his career, as he has won it twice—in 2019 and again in 2022. But that’s not all, because Kyrgios won’t just be playing singles in the American capital.
Indeed, the 30-year-old is also expected to compete in doubles, as he confirmed himself on Instagram. When responding to a fan’s question about whether he planned to play doubles in Washington, Kyrgios replied with a photo of himself and Gaël Monfils, suggesting a partnership between the two in the coming days.
On the ATP Tour, the two have faced each other twice in singles, but their last meeting dates back to the semifinals of the Tokyo tournament in 2016. At the time, Kyrgios won in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). Tune in starting July 21 to follow the Kyrgios/Monfils duo’s adventures—if their pairing is confirmed in the draw by then.
