Learning to disconnect from tennis comes with time, and I love it," says Gauff
Coco Gauff was knocked out in the first round of Wimbledon by Dayana Yastremska. A very disappointing result for the American, who had just won Roland-Garros the previous month.
To reset and prepare for the upcoming hard-court season in the U.S., Gauff decided to step away from tennis.
During a press conference, she explained: "This time at home really helped me, allowing me to organize my life a bit and spend time with my family after two months of traveling in Europe.
I got to attend Beyoncé’s concert—it was amazing. I also met some of her team members and spent time with other important people. We had a great time getting lost in Florida.
I didn’t realize it was split into two parts; I’d never been to a place like that before, but it was fun. Reconnecting with nature did me a lot of good—I’ll do it again.
I still train hard every day, about four or five hours, but that’s what I need to stay focused between tournaments.
It helps me rediscover my game every day, even though it’s a routine we’re used to with all the travel, hotels, and tournament schedules.
In the end, learning to disconnect from tennis a little comes with experience, so now I make myself do it from time to time—I love it. People are a little surprised to see me out and about, but it’s totally normal.
