Monfils back on track to reach Majorca semi-finals!
Gaël Monfils is not dead. After a fairly average clay-court season, the 38-year-old is on the road to recovery on Majorca grass.
Having already achieved his goal of qualifying for the Olympic Games, Monfils has now won three matches in a row. These successes have taken him back to the semi-finals of an ATP tournament for the first time since Doha at the start of the year.
Already a solid winner over a Thiem on his farewell tour in the first round (6-3, 7-6), he went on to dispatch Carballes Baena with ease (6-3, 6-4), before overcoming Bautista Agut in the quarter-finals (6-3, 4-6, 6-4).
Buoyed by a highly effective serve and a new-found solidity in the exchange, La Monf' is now hoping to go one step further, and why not reach his first final of the season? To do so, the current world No. 40 will have to overcome a Tabilo who may not be such a clay-court specialist.
