Nadal on his career: "I won a lot of tournaments playing very badly".
While in Jeddah for the Next Gen Masters, Rafael Nadal met three of the event's players: Jakub Mensik, Joao Fonseca and Alex Michelsen.
The meeting, which was immortalized by the ATP cameras, gave Nadal the opportunity to talk about his career and give a wealth of advice to the new generation of players.
Among the most memorable passages was one in which the Majorcan recalled the days when he felt his level was at its lowest: "I can tell you one thing. Throughout my career, I've won a lot of tournaments playing very, very badly.
The days before the tournament, during the first round, the second round...
But if you're there mentally, if you accept the challenge and if you're humble enough, you accept that you're playing terribly. You fight with what you've got.
Out of ten or twenty games, you're going to win one where you feel you're playing badly, you're losing and there's nothing else you can do.
If you respond, you'll win that match just once.
This match can change everything, it can change your year. Because then you can play the next day, and in the end, maybe this is the tournament where you end up winning."
