No other player had given me that impression," says Cilic about Alcaraz
Marin Cilic spoke about Carlos Alcaraz, whom he faced for the first time in 2021 at the Estoril tournament. Despite the Croatian's victory, he was very impressed by the level of play displayed by the Spaniard, who was barely 17 years old at the time.
Since then, Alcaraz has defeated the Croatian four times, including once at the US Open in 2022 in five sets.
In comments relayed by Punto de Break, Cilic states: "When I faced him in Miami, in Cincinnati, and here in New York, he really impressed me.
I don't think any other tennis player had given me that impression before. I knew I had someone truly special in front of me. What he accomplished at just 19 years old was incredible.
Both he and Sinner deserve their success; they work hard and are incredibly disciplined.
