Paolini Dominates Gauff and Secures the Final Ticket to the Semifinals in Stuttgart
Jasmine Paolini clinched her spot in the semifinals of the WTA 500 in Stuttgart this Saturday. The Italian triumphed in straight sets against Coco Gauff (6-4, 6-3) after an hour and a half of play.
The world No. 6 was trailing 4-2 in the first set but rallied to win the next four games and take the lead. In the second set, the two players exchanged five consecutive breaks (from 1-0 to 4-2) before Paolini held her serve and ultimately pulled away in this quarterfinal match.
With her first victory of the season over a Top 10 player, Paolini will now face world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals. The Belarusian leads their head-to-head 4-2, but tomorrow will mark their first meeting on clay.
