Paolini reflects on her loss to Samsonova: "I never managed to find the rhythm"
Jasmine Paolini was eliminated in the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells. The Italian, ranked world number 6, was defeated decisively by Liudmila Samsonova (6-0, 6-4) and confirmed her struggles at the start of the season.
Paolini has not reached a single quarterfinal this season, following her third-round exits at the Australian Open, Doha, and Dubai, the tournament where she was the defending champion.
Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Paolini reflected on her loss to the Russian, acknowledging that her opponent was in superior form.
"I certainly could have done a bit more, but it wasn’t easy. She made very few mistakes, and when she’s in form and playing like that, she’s a very dangerous player.
I never managed to find the rhythm, so there’s definitely some regret on that front, but my opponent delivered an excellent performance in my opinion.
It wasn’t an easy tournament; I’ve always struggled a bit in Indian Wells. I had a tough time from the start (against Samsonova). I know she’s a very good tennis player, and I knew she would play well.
We know each other well, I didn’t start well, and it was hard to stay positive. I hope I can find better form at the next event in Miami," Paolini concluded for Tennis World Italia.
