Parry and Jeanjean One Win Away from Main Draw at WTA 500 Monterrey

Three French players were in contention in the first round of qualifying for the WTA 500 tournament in Monterrey, Mexico. Léolia Jeanjean secured her spot in the final qualifying round after defeating Czech player Anna Siskova, ranked 326th in the world (6-4, 6-0).
The 30-year-old, who withdrew before facing Amanda Anisimova in Cincinnati due to right calf pain, will now take on Elvina Kalieva for a place in the main draw.
Diane Parry is also still in the running. The Nice native, coming off a frustrating loss to Diana Snigur in the second round of the Warsaw tournament in late July, defeated her compatriot Amandine Hesse (6-2, 6-4).
The world No. 106 will now have to overcome Lulu Sun, who has dropped to 90th in the WTA rankings, to try and secure a spot in the main draw. It’s worth noting that currently, no French player is guaranteed to compete in the tournament, as none are directly entered into the main draw.
