Parry Collapses Late in the Match and Loses to Snigur in Warsaw

The last French player remaining in the WTA 125 tournament in Warsaw, Diane Parry, will not advance to the quarterfinals. The Frenchwoman, ranked 109th in the world and seeded fifth in Poland, was defeated in the second round by Daria Snigur, ranked 193rd by the WTA. After her victory against Monika Stankiewicz (6-3, 6-3), the Nice native failed to capitalize despite having the match within her grasp.
After winning the first set, Parry thought she had done the hard part by breaking back in the second set to level at 4-4, putting herself just two games away from qualification. But Snigur fought back to force a decisive third set.
Parry even started the final set strongly, pulling ahead to lead 4-1. However, the last twenty minutes of the match were completely dominated by the Ukrainian, who found the resources to clinch the victory (4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in 2 hours and 35 minutes).
Defeated in the round of 16 in Hamburg by Dayana Yastremska, Parry—who completely lost her way against Snigur—will not compete in the quarterfinals, unlike her opponent, who will face Viktorija Golubic this Thursday.
In other matches scheduled for today in the Polish capital, Korneeva-Jimenez Kasintseva, Siniakova-Seidel, and Okamura-Salkova will also battle for a spot in the semifinals.
